The winner of the previous vote was Team Members! As we implement team members into the system, we will be running another vote for the next upgrade. Below is a brief description of the current voting options.

Help Files - help files will allow admins to add game-specific help files to their MUD

Doors - doors will allow creation of custom exit blocking objects along with keys to open them

Pets - pets will allow player controlled NPCs. They will be able to fight with the player, carry items, etc

New Combat System - a new combat system would include timed weapons, block and parry percentages, custom combat formulas, custom text output, etc

New Player Creation System - a new player creation system would include race restrictions on classes, class loading option, custom character creation messages, bonus stat points players could assign, random stat options on races, etc

Secondary skill set was removed for a few reasons. Even though it received a lot of votes, we're going to hold it off until we add some additional features. A secondary skill set could fall along the lines with a scripting system, and will probably be put back on the list when our sever grows a little more. Also, there were a lot of requests and discussion about altering the combat and player creation system. So we wanted to give those a run to see if that was in demand as much as it seems.

Man thats tough....doors or combat system! I want them both so much!! :S

As for the secondary skill system, for now i found you can make a tree/iron rock NPC and just say kill tree. just make it so it can't attack back and have it drop logs. Then make someone who will make things for you with logs. (Corpse of iron rock, lol)

In my MUD I have a blacksmith's shop and on the wall there is a list. You type look list and it says what he will make you if you bring the proper ingredients and money. But there are two things on there with the same ingredients, so i made tokens. They are called "iron sword token" "copper helmet token" and so on. You can get them from him for free. Then just give him the money it costs for him to make something, then give him the materials, and then give him the token, then he gives you a sword or whatever.

Its a good system. And even if players can someday make stuff themselves i will leave this in because the blacksmith has skill with crafting items so there is %100 chance of success.

This vote was actually a no brainer for me. Pets would be nice, and I want them in my MUD eventually, but I can do 99% of my MUD's development without them. Doors are similar...nice but not near necessary right now. As to the Player Creation System, there are workarounds you can use to give it customizability now. So it too can wait. For Help Files, you can put in an object called Help Guides and give them to the player on startup, and they can read it and bam its a helpfile.

The new combat system, however. THAT is necessary. I cannot work on many skills, weapons, armours, even spells until it comes out because I need to know how it works to get everything balanced. Not only that, certain combat skills mentioned like Block and Parry as well as others cannot really be implemented or designed until the system is in.

We NEED a new combat system, with custom combat formula, etc. (That update would also be a good time to add new variables into formulas such as stats!) Everything hinges on it. If we get pets, I'd use em for combat, but I cannot really do there combat until the combat system is in!

Combat System Guys...vote for it. Be smart!

The current combat system ain't so bad. If (or considering the votes and how hard you guys are working, when Wink ) a new combat system is put in, maybe leave an option for using the original one? When I make a combat system it would mostly involve spells and effects anyway. One of the reasons I suggest this is because a really complex combat system might bug up the game and I want it to run smoothly Razz

Out of curiosity, are you currently subscribed to MUDmaker?

If not, i think if/when you see the combat system -a little bit more frequently- you'll agree with us all, in the fact that it is currently lacking much.

Don't forget also, that with the new combat system implementation comes more admin customization, which is always a beautiful thing Smile

I must admit, no, I'm not subscribed right now, I'm just basing it off of what I've seen that it would appear to have more options to it than most muds do.

On the subject of combat systems, one of the first ones I saw that fascinated me was the one in gemstone III, which had hundreds of messages for when someone gets wounded by an attack that would be on a line after the one saying an attack was attempted. For instance, ... a giant rat's kneecap is struck brutally and cracks! Maybe player defined wounding messages, the chances based off the weapon type and/or armor would be cool and could give bonus effects like types of stuns, draining endurance or mana as well, etc. Shocked

While gemstones combat system isnt perfect and has some major issues, It is a good example of a well designed, unique combat system. The sheer amount of variability in combat makes it kinda fun!

While I probably wont do a system thats similar, I do want some more variability. I want weapon roundtimes. I wanna specify my own combat formula. I want a combat system thats more unique and has more options and variables. So please people, vote for it heh

Everyone knows we need the combat system to be revamped with pretty much everything, hell even Mudmaker said it would get done sooner rather than later.

I think at this stage though, we need either doors, or creation system. -I say this as more than 50% of people using Mudmaker and the forum are not even subscribed, therefor they have nearly 0 player base.

While a combat system is fun to implement and use as the admin, it is entirely for the players. In order to attract players a unique, engaging, entertaining, and informal creation process is extremely needed.
